Brief report on a visit to Shagalots...

I was staying about 2 hours outside of Chicago this weekend and with nothing to do at night, I made a trip to the Gary area. This is my second trip there for this purpose. First of all I want to thank all my fellow mongers for Directions to the bookstore. I am from a far west burb of Chicago, about 60 miles west to be exact and never having been to gary except a drive through I was able to find the bookstore with relative ease. I arrived there a little early on Friday the 18th so I decided to drive around a bit. Drove down Broadway past 45th ave and saw nothing. My first attempt at an AMP failed. I finally decided to try Sun Spa in Dyer and was disappointed at what I found. I walked in the door to a small hallway with a small sliding glass window. An old mamma-san came to the window and told me only one girl was working. Her name was PJ. She said PJ was busy and that she would start the massage. This was a turn off and I left. It was a Tuesday around 3PM so maybe it was bad timing on my part. I think I may try PS tomorrow or Saturday. No problems with Sun over here, dropped in recently. The first time I went I was met by the mamasan and didn't meet the woman until in this case YoYo until she got me from the sauna. I was very pleasantly surprised by YoYo who was very attractive.

Visited Gary for the first time in many weeks -- there was absolutely nothing on Broadway. I did see a cop car parked just north of the railroad tracks -- no effort to hide, so it was there to deter, not to catch anybody. Another cop was parked, a bit more hidden, on the side street just north of Ridge.

It was enough to deter me -- I left.

Nothing on Route 20. One woman standing in front of the Royal Inn as I went by, but she was too obvious. To me that means either a sting or at least an indiscreet hooker who is going to attract unwanted attention.

I also visited Pete & Mabel's for the first time in a long time. Vanessa recognized me and was very friendly, even chatty, which she never used to be. There was nothing there of interest, though, and the place was so dead they closed up a little after nine. Dino (the son/bartender) and Mabel got in a nasty shouting match in which selling the place was mentioned. Dino had also complained about the police parking in their parking lot, hurting business apparently. Doesn't sound good.

I was at P&M's a few days ago, I always go in and get a drink and some change for the pool tables.I notice there is not a whole lot of ladies there anymore and the regulars are often so high that you really don't want to fool with any. Just one more comment on what I've learned from my contest with the courts that may be of use to fellow mongers. I learned from watching others in court and a previous simmiliar situation I was in that there are two systems of justice in our country: The system for those without good representation and the system for those who can afford a good lawyer.

I cannot stress to mongers who might get caught up in a hobby situation that a lawyer is not an optional expense, you should consider it a necessary expense.

While not meaning to waste the bandwidth here with off-topic drivel, I can say that my lawyer set me back $1.5k but it would have been worth it even if I had been found guilty simply becuase he adressed to the court that I needed to leave the state to work, and petitioned to allow me to leave for reasons of employment while I was on a bond that would normally not allow me to leave my state of residence. Keeping the cash cow going was worth the expense. The lawyer was also successful in getting my court dates jugled to times that were favorable to me for reasons of employment that often had me working out of town. A lawyer can help you change your venue in some cases. A good Attorney is an invaluable ombudsman between you and the court- If you get a good criminal lawyer who regularly tries cases in the jurisdiction of your case he will likely know the dirt on the presiding judge enough to advise you if you would be better copping a plea or fighting it. He (or she) should at least in theory know what motions can be filed in your defense and what legal options are open to you.

When the average joe goes in front of the court without a lawyer and not knowing the procedures, he gets eaten alive. No one has told him what to expect and he is pretty much left to the whims of the prosecutor and the judge. In some jurisdictions, they may want to make an example out of johns in order to appease the community who doesn't want SW's in their neighborhoods, you might get a judge with a moral hair up their ass, or you might get soemone whose seen a bunch of punks paraded in front of him all day and wants to tell all of you to 'sit down and shut up'.

As much as we hate the legal sittuation the cops and the courts are just doing there job. We can get self righteous that they could spend taxpayers money better chasing after violent criminals, but that doesn't make the political pressures that cause them to focus on girls and hobbyists go away. What you need in this hobby and in day-to-day life is a strategy for keeping yourself out of jail and from being a victim, whether to LE or to street punks. Part of this strategy should be knowing that when the shit hits the fan you need an advocate in your corner who knows how the criminal justice system works. Okay, off my soapbox. Lets get back to mongering reports :D

Finally some good news. I started leaving earlier for work around 5:15 am and going down Broadway instead of 65. Last week I went to PS around 11:30 AM. I thought I would beat the rush. I was greeted by the old madam and went to the room. In came a very hot young lady. I would not recommend going thru all that trouble to visit the bookstore.

If you are driving and in the area it is an OK, and cheap alternative, but it is what it is and, IMHO, it is not worth taking the train and then walking!

What it is, is a real dive with a few cute but kinda fat trailer trash babes, never more than 4 or 5's on the scale, who will do you short time for not much cash. Total time spent on average with the girl is no more than 10 or 15 minutes, and you are sitting on a hard chair behind a curtain, or standing. The separate "theater" there is really hit or miss, and usually miss and might not start going until much too late to be walking and taking the train.

You usually feel like you need a shower after visiting the bookstore and that is assuming you have driven there.

Got a call from a company I'd never heard of a little while back. It seems that someone had made an effort to buy some camcorders on my Visa and have them shipped to like, Michigan and Ohio. I very seldom carry my social security card around with me, and I don't have it printed on my driver's license. I figure, if I lose my wallet, it's bad enough some stranger has my cash, identification, home address, credit cards - do I really want them to have my social security number, too? No chance. It would be just my luck someone steals my identity and jacks a plane.

As I said, it's very rare that I carry the thing, but I remember one week that I needed it on me for some various official things. I usually dump the contents of my wallet somewhere in the car when I'm out running the streets, but every once in a while, when on a mission, I'm sure I've forgotten to do that. And the only time that my wallet might have been out of my control would have been while getting a shower at one of two places. Do I even need to say where?

I admit, I've visited PS and Sun(D)... more times that are worth even mentioning. I've been to both, more than a few times. And as much as I would like to think they're an "honest" bunch, you never know who's halfway out the door and looking to make a few extra bucks while they're at it...

GARY — A school bus driver, a minister, a housing authority maintenance man and an illegal alien have something in common.

All four were arrested — along with 16 other men — during a prostitution sting set up in two locations here during the weekend, Sgt. John Jelks said.

“We were shocked by the broad spectrum of people — all ages, all sorts of jobs — who came here to buy sex,” Jelks said Monday.

High school students from Merrillville, Gary and Martin Luther King Academy were among the youngest arrested. A 17-year-old West Side High School student was released to his parents, while his older companion was charged, like the others, with patronizing a prostitute.

Two female detectives posed as prostitutes Friday and Saturday nights, Jelks said.

Wearing devices to record their conversations, the women stationed themselves in the 2300 block of Broadway and later in the 3900 block of Broadway and waited.

“It was just a few minutes before they got their first customer,” Jelks said.

After obtaining a proposition, the undercover officers would give the “take-down” signal, and members of the Narcotics-Vice Unit swept in to make the arrests.

Police towed all the cars involved, Jelks said.

Most of the men arrested were from Gary, but five were from Merrillville, two from Griffith and one from Grand Rapids, Mich.

An illegal alien who has been working as a laborer while living in Black Oak was able to speak enough English to approach one of the detectives.

But when [Deleted by Admin] was arrested, he claimed he spoke only Spanish. Jelks provided an interpreter, Sgt. Carlos Rivera, who learned the man is 20 years old and is not in the country legally.

The oldest suspect was [Deleted by Admin], of Gary who was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in front of the library in Glen Park.

A man who claimed he’s the pastor of a local church, [Deleted by Admin], was arrested Friday night outside the Budget Motel in the 2300 block of Broadway.

“He told us he was a minister, but when we showed some interest in his church, he refused to answer,” Jelks said.

A Gary Housing Authority service worker, in his uniform and driving a GHA van filled with tools and equipment, offered one of the detectives money for sex during the Midtown sting, Jelks said.

[Deleted by Admin], was apparently still on duty when he was arrested. Jelks said police used his GHA telephone to contact a supervisor to get the van.

A bus driver arrested early Sunday pleaded with Gary City Court Judge Pro Tem Itsia Rivera to release him from jail on his own recognizance.

“I work. My wife is right here,” [Deleted by Admin], said. “I have four kids.” The judge, who’d already set bond at $300 cash, relented and said he could go.

[Deleted by Admin], had been escorted to the van where detectives were processing the suspects when he allegedly became angry and tried to choke Det. Troy Campbell. As a result, [Deleted by Admin] was also charged with resisting law enforcement, Jelks said.

Residents have called the police department hot line and reported seeing women soliciting in various parts of the city.

“This is really a quality of life issue,” Jelks said.

“We know so many of these women are HIV positive. These guys come here and get sex, then take it home to their families,” he said.

The undercover sting operations will continue, unannounced, Jelks said.

“We’re just trying to send a message. You run the risk of getting arrested, having your name publicized and your reputation blemished,” Jelks said.

LE raided PS in March of 2004 but that was more about EC politics. Stings are done about 4 days per year during warm weather out on Stateline Rd.

If you go to http://www.nwitimes.com click on archives and then type in "prostitution" in the search and change the date range to like 2001 you can find every article on prostitution including arrests during that period and you can go back as far a 15 years. You can get names, home addresses, age of all prostitutes plus the arrest location, date and time so some very useful info.

I would not recommend going thru all that trouble to visit the bookstore.

If you are driving and in the area it is an OK, and cheap alternative, but it is what it is and, IMHO, it is not worth taking the train and then walking!

What it is, is a real dive with a few cute but kinda fat trailer trash babes, never more than 4 or 5's on the scale, who will do you short time for not much cash. Here is my experience, based on a few visits. The $3 "entry" gets you a bottle of water and the right to look at the dirty magazines etc. That's it. This does not get you into any "show" or anything else.

The lap dance is in a back area with only plastic curtains for doors and walls. The only furniture in the room is a small chair. There is no "stage."

Extras are probably available depending on the girl and on your negotiating skills, but this is a real cheap dive kind of place so you should not pay too much. Again, when the song or songs are over, your time is up, extras or not. So you are looking at from 4 to 12 minutes at most.

There is also another room in the front of the place which is a part time "theater." Sometimes there might be a "show" which has another admission price depending on the event. (The theater has been closed most times I was there.) The show could be a couple doing it while a few guys watch, or another dancer, but this is really YMMV. I started two new threads. I wanted to post pictures of the places we visit. We can use these new threads to post all information regarding the locations (such as visits, etc.) we have this option, or we can go on and keep one large thread that encompasses everything, going.

We can start a SW thread or threads for specific strolls as well.

Personally, one of the reasons I changed the organization of the forum to allow members to start threads was specifically to encourage threads on specific places, locations, service providers, etc. I believe that this will lead to a better orgainzation of the information.

I've just spent a few delightful hours on the USASEXGUIDE. I took time to look around for the first time.

If you haven't been to the photos section you are missing something. In fact, I think we are all missing something here in NW Indiana. It looks like Seattle is monger heaven.

Take a look at any picture and it's info box. In the box are links to the post and thread relating to the thumbnail picture. The area is usually on there as well. Some guys are really having some fun.

Another thing I noticed while visiting other areas is that this board is very diverse. Some locations are mostly street walker reports, while another area might be mostly escorts. We seem to feature AMPS and places like CTS on NW Indiana.

Take some time and look around this site.
