View Full Version : Survey: Renaming the Pasadena section to San Gabriel Valley

I've receivad a suggestion for re-naming the Pasadena section to San Gabriel Valley, the rational beign that the Pasadena section doesn't get alot of posts, and that San Gabriel Valley has a lot of AMP's.

Of course, I don't know the area, and the author of the proposal wasn't clear if he was suggesting that I delete the Pasadena section and add a new section for San Gabriel Valley, or if Pasadena is within the confines of San Gabriel Valley, and that renaming the Pasadena section to San Gabriel Valley would expand the area covered by the section and perhaps increase the postings therein.

I'll leave this to you guys who live there to tell me what you'd like me to do.

Thanks,

Jackson

I would suggest perhaps "Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley" because a lot of people know where Pasadena is, but not
necessarily what cities are included in SGV.

We need a SGV section because Pasadena is dead! The SGV area has allfor the escort and incall in one area! There are mayber over 300 hookers living or working in that area alone!

How about an all encompassing label of "626" (the area code), since it covers all of the SGV in any case?

Hi,

The difficulty with using area codes to define the physical areas of interest is that very few people are aware of the physical boundaries of individual area codes. In addition, many area codes overlap and/or share the same areas. However, in general, many people are familiar with the boundaries of the political and/or geographical areas in their area.

Thanks,

Jackson

Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley

That would encompass the area and give outsiders a point of reference.

Anything BUT "San Gabriel Valley" with "Pasadena" associated. There's two issue, dropping Pasadena, which I don't care one way or the other, and adding San Gabriel Valley, which we should.

Physically, San Gabriel Valley usually refers to the cities below the San Gabriel mountains, which could cover Pasadena in the West to Diamond Bar in the East, which is a vast area. If you look up local newspapers and real estates, the boundary is kept vague. With such a vast area, Pasadena do not represent the area. Actually it's the odd one out in the area. It's in the far corner and share little commonality with the other cities.

It's rather easy to get to Pasadena, both north and south, from central LA. But from central LA to SGV, the east bound I10 is forever jammed, including 60. The 605, the freeway to the valley, is the most dangerous strip of freeway in LA. If you don't know where is SVG, you don't. Adding Pasadena as a point of reference to the area is totally inappropriate. The city of San Gabriel is better if you want to do that. It's closer to the center of SGV, with the same name as the valley, along the I10 which serve most of the cities in the valley. Many cities in SGV share the same freeway exit layout.

In 2000, the population of Pasadena is 134 K, 53% white, 10% Asian. 33% of any race Hispanic. It's know to be one of the oldest cities in LA. Most of the cities in SGV are fairly new and indeed one of the fastest growing area in LA. Pick any two cities in SGV and they are larger than North and South Pasadena.

At the West end of SGV, Alhambra, 86K population. 30% white, 47% Asian, 33% of which are Chinese with the rest Vietnamese, probably mostly Chinese Vietnamese. Hispanic of any race 36%. Most of the cities in SGV are more like Alhambra than Pasadena.

At the other East end, Rowland Heights, 29% white, 50% Asian, majority Chinese, with some significant Koreans.

In the middle, it's the famous City of Industry, no men's land. Well known for it's strip clubs, closed hostess clubs, and some MP's.

Though I don't think it's that useful adding SGV for those guys who doesn't know where it is. Looking at the impressive statistics you know the best kept secrets must be there. There are some websites already well known. But other things remain best kept among the vast number of locals.

The interesting thing is that Alhambra has 47% male and 53% female. Do you think there's only 300 hookers in West Hollywood? Only 300 hookers in all of SGV ?!

i think it all depends on who the intended audience is:

1. if its for locals, forget Pasadena. Everyone local knows SGV, and I think its more representative of the general area. Pasadena is only a very small area of the SGV.

2. if its for visitors, Pasadena may be appropiate because of visitors to the area. But then I would think alot of people visit Industry, Arcadia, Baldwin Park because of all the businesses there. How about Alhambra, with the new Hilton being built, should also bring lots of visitors.

In conclusion, and lots of rambling, I think SGV does the trick... nice and simple for locals and visitors

After looking at the San Gabriel Valley Area Governments website, the San Gabriel Valley stretches from East Los Angeles/Monterey Park to Claremont and includes parts of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. That is too huge of a geographic area. I would suggest leaving things they way they are as it provides better granularity where it is required.

There is no action in Pasadena anyways. A SGV section could include info about Industry, West Covina, and other areas that wind up getting lumped into San Bernardino or Pomona.

I think the SGV section is a good idea. The valley is quite large, but so is Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, etc.

For those who live in the area, the SGV is certainly known. If hobbiest are coming from out of town, some simple reading on this site will give them an idea of what is where.

Los Angeles is so sprawling, on community becomes another. Renaming to the SGV is a good idea. I vote YES!

Thanks for your work.

Pasadena/SGV works for me.

I have never understood why there is no City of Industry forum. That's a hot bed of action. Plenty to comment and share experiences about.

Too Huge? Better granularity?

There is no forum section for the 20 mile stretch from E.L.A. to Pomona for all the posts about AMPs in those areas. People who live in the SGV know where it is, but don't know where to post or read posts for those areas.

C.O. Industry is exactly halfway between Pomona and E.L.A. so its awkward to pick on of the other forum sections.

For the one or two visitors to Pasadena who aren't familiar with SGV, they will probably ask for guidance in one of the LA forums and can then be directed to the SGV forum. This is better than inconveniencing 99% of the local users who actually live in the SGV and don't need a government website to find themselves.

I say kill Pasadena and replace it with San Gabriel Valley.

PS I'm the original suggestor of the new forum section.

Since SGV (if it gets added!) would cover most of east and northeast LA County, perhaps other LA County forums can also encompass broad geographic areas, e.g. Downtown", "Greater LA"-the "323" area, "Westside" (all of 310), the "San Fernando Valley (the "818"), and the "South Bay (all of 562). Since the "High Desert" of LA County (Lancaster/Palmdale) is so isolated, maybe it needs its own forum too.

I agree that there is a need to have SGV post and take away Pasadena. Only because I think of the whole place as SGV anyway.

Redneck:

The Southbay includes Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, El Segundo, Redondo Beach, Torrance, and possibly Gardena. All are 310 area codes. The 562 area code is Long Beach (geographically not Southbay), Whittier, Downey, Santa Fe Springs, La Habra, etc. Just wanted to clarify areas and their area codes. It's always been a bit frustrating lumping in Inglewood and the Southbay together. Inglewood, with all its activity should certainly have its own section. And the Southbay has a few great places but it is so different from Inglewood. I hope Jackson will separate the two. Perhaps we can dump Newport Beach and Anaheim since there has been little if any activity in those cities for quite some time now and I doubt much will be revived given the fact that LE in those cities will be like sharks if anyone attempts to open new MPs. And I certainly agree that SGV should have its own section. Hell, it very well may be the busiest of all, if not the most fun. Granted, many of the places are quite private.

That is a great idea becouse SGV represents the area not just Pasadena which is in western part of SGV, let's get it done.

Okay then, let's do away with Pasadena. But at this point, we now have a hodgepodge of specific cities, counties and geographic regions that overlap.

For example, should Pomona be left as a separate city (would get my vote), be rolled into San Gabriel Valley, be rolled into some sort of larger Los Angeles County, or placed into some sort of kreiged monger zones. An example of the last is that many mongers will cruise the downtown LA, Hollywood, Fig and Inglewood as distinct from South Bay to Orange County, or
Pomona-Riverside-S.B.

When I think of the SGV, I think of the area between the 710 and 57. And from the SGV mountains down to cities just south of the 60 such as Montebello, Whittier, etc...

Thats an area like 20 miles by 20 miles, roundabout 400 square miles!

I actually think SGV adds continuity. Going East bound, starting with Santa Monica, then Los Angeles, then SGV, then Pomona, San Bernandino....

Nothing to the north, and OC to the South.

No, the Pomona Valley needs to remain independent from the San Gabriel Valley. Geographically & prostituionally, they are distinct. There are no exits between the Diamond Bar/W. Covina and Pomona exits of the 60 frwy, there're just a hilly passage of Kellog Hill on the 10 and Phillips Ranch Rd. /57 between the two valleys w/ no businesses or residences on that 1-1/2 mile stretch of the 10 & 60.

Pomona; we're talking Holt, Mission, Central, Mountain, Arrow, Foothill

San Gabriel Valley: we're talking AMPS in COI, Baldwin Park, El Monte (only 1 LSW), Sarah's on Pomona Blvd X 60, new ones on Diamond Bar, Walnut, etc.

Yes, we need a SGV board.

Here is another solution. I live in the area (#1) so I have an idea of what I'm talking about. How about splitting it into two:

1. West San Gabriel Valley - which would include cities like Pasadena, Alhambra, Monterey Park, Rosemead, Temple City, Arcadia (the latter 5 cities have many Asian providers that are being reported here and elsewhere.

2. San Gabriel Valley - The rest of the SGV cities. I rarely monger there, so I will let the others comment about SGV mongering.

I know that it is for the most part slower in terms of SWs than SGV or SFV whatever you will call those areas, but for those who dont know where those are they only relate to it as Pasadena I say we leave it up.
OR - make it some sort of subcategory of the SGV,

But it seems to be cool how it is.

I say leave it be.

For some strage reason, I am sure that the survey results of this board are no doubt "inconclusive" (as they apparently are with the question re: San Bernardino/Riverside board!) in spite of the fact that the "YES" side has overwhelmingly "won" this survey. The e-mails I have exhcanged with Jackson state that if I "hold my horses", that a CA board "reorganization" is coming (I have heard this line MORE THEN ONCE NOW!). On the other hand, Jackson (since it is HIS board!) apparently thinks that "upgrading" members to "senior members" is more of a priority, since THAT is always being done continuously!
It would be nice to tell the moderator to "shit or get off the pot" on this topic, but its his board, and if you read the "banned users" list, flagrant criticism is not looked upon kindly (though the e-mails that the "banned users" send are beyond hysterically stupid!). Bottom Line: we have to deal with what is on here the way it is on here, or we can leave, and those "technologically savy enough" can start a better organized board.

For my part, I would suggest we just add an East SGV and West SGV. Leave Pasadena as it is. And the SGV is so large that it probably shouldn't be just one area. Also, leave Pomona separate.

Re-name it SGV because that's where the action is at compared to pasadena.

Member #5605

Not sure why this is still on here, since the overwhelming results are as ignored as the other polls that no longer are on here. These must be "inconclusive" as well.

Its a no brainer. SGV since there is usally lots of incall action. Its also a wide area. Its that simple!

Since its impossible on this board to create a new thread (and even to post sometimes given the never-ending DOS attacks!), let's "improvise, modify, and adapt" and call THIS THREAD, the "San Gabriel Valley/626" thread, and post findings, etc. as warranted. It can't hurt, and can only help in bringing some badly needed geographic organization to this discombobulated CA board.
