I find that the Sony Digitals are very easy to use. I have taken about 3,000 pictures with my first one.

Just wondering, I have an attractive friend who I may photograph, she is a pro.

a) I don't think I want to show her face, we live in a small town.

b) I would pay her but also wonder if I should get a model's release to protect myself.

c) She is 24 years old but shaves and looks younger; I would like to protect my self there as well.

Any recommendations?

I have a few ideas for you.

Photo Suite, Photo Shop and there are many more that are wonderful programs that can enable you to delete her face. They can also change other things like red eye. I know there are purest that hate these programs while others depend on them daily. If you wanted to avoid the software you could simply pose her so she has her face hidden.

Like you, I would pay her for her time, too. I think when you do so you will find her to be much more cooperative. I would also get a release. I am certain you can find a good one online, just do a google search.

To protect yourself as far as her age is concerned I would get copies of her ID. Make sure that they have not been tampered with. Somepeople might think this overboard but to avoid spending time in jail, it is worth it.

I have done modeling photography and found it to be wonderful!!! The girl looks at you and you direct her every move. She is like putty in your hands.

I hope you show us what she looks like. You have piqued my interest.

8ball,

I agree with Max's comments. I'm an amatuer photog. You really should have her sign a model's release. Check some Camera stores for the release. I know one of my local store carries them. Photoshop or some other imaging program can blur her face to protect her identity. Good luck!

The camera I would recomment for taking yourself in action it the Nikon Coolpicks 4500. It it in two parts the the screen can be facing the action. I would also suggest a 0.7 wide angle adaptor to get more in the action. Not a perfect camera but not bad. I have used a little it's earliest brother 995. One of the problens is the long shutter delay, which can be up to 0.8 seconds. May not sould long but for action it is useless. You have to pose for shot.

I have been using a Fuji FinePix Digital (don'r remember thje model A260 or something like that) It cost me $150 has a nice zoom (not the crappy digital zoom) great 3.1 mega pixel resolution and is VERY easy to use.

Hell I just connect the USB cable to the compueter and camera and then turn it on. The software does everything else automatically. I only have to click yes twice and then remember to delete the pix form the camera afterwards (three buttons total to delete).
I've gotten some Fine pictures (no pun intended). Its also small and very portable.
I haven't met a lady that did not like it.

Hey guys,

I do not own a digital camera. I picked up a chica in Lima and took her to my room the other day. Before I knew it, I was taking pictures of her with a regular camera. Now, the problem is, where can I get these developed without getting in any trouble? The pictures are of her nude and also some x-rated ones. I am afraid if I took them to Walmart they would not develop them and may call LE.

Thanks for any help.

Stinger - I would ask on your local forum where people get photos developed. Not only do you not want to have a hassle, but many photo lab employees make 2 or 3 copies of the interesting ones. I know that some mail order places are reliable, and you should be able to do a Google search such as, "film developing" +discreet (or +adult)

I've had the best luck with getting a small digital camera that fits in my pocket. 3 megapixel is optimal in my opinion.

I have gotten pictures done at Kmart, Wal-Mart and Walgreen’s with no problems. The only content they are required to report to my knowledge is ch*ldren.

Also a good point they can make copies without your knowledge. I did have one kid steal my pictures and negatives at a locally owned retail store, but the management replaced everything. But other than that I have had hundreds developed with no problems.

I am a pro photograper.

The model's release and the age verification are two separate things, both of which you will want to make decisions about dealing with.

Re: Model's release

It's my understanding that you don't need a model's release unless you plan to publish the pictures in any way. That is to say, if you just plan to look at the pictures yourself, then don't worry about it (it's not a crime to take photos, and there's no legal implication if they don't go anywhere), but if you ever think that you might want to sell the pictures, or post them to the web in any kind of forum, or even send them to someone in email, then it's best to get a model release.

As a rule, I always try to get a release signed even if I think I'll never use the pictures for anything. It could happen that an unforseen use may come up in the future, and it's hard to get a release signed after the fact (especially with the type of people we're talking about here...) There's a release available on the web: www.dccphoto.com/release.htm. I hereby make no statement attesting to the "legal-worthiness" of the aforementioned release, however. Use at your own risk.

Re: Nudes and ID (bear in mind that I'm not a lawyer -- if you have questions, contact one...) The laws and enforcement of same vary by location and the whims of LE. The whole legal area surrounding this topic is one big shade of grey.

The law as I know it (2257, Title 18) states that a producer of pornography (which is you, as soon as the shutter clicks) must keep copies of 2 forms of ID, one of which being a picture ID. It also states other things -- Detailed info can be found on the web -- it's boring, but reccommended reading...

My best practices regarding releases and ID:

The IDs I prefer to use are: Driver's liscense, SS card and/or Passport. I always shoot a close-up of the IDs on a table (for detail), and then get a shot of the model holding her IDs next to her face. When the model signs the release, I get a shot of her signing the paper. If sex is to be a part of the shoot (with me or anyone else) I put an addendum on the release, which I require her to sign, that states that she fully consents to any sexual activity that takes place during the course of the shoot. In addition, if I'm doing video, I'll get footage of her stating that she's over 18 years old, and that she's participating in today's shoot in a fully consentual way and that she fully consents to all the actions that take place during the course of the shoot (the photography, any sex that may happen, etc.).

Even though I do all of the above on a regular basis, I've never tested any of this in a court of law yet (thankfully). I figure if a picture is worth a thousand words, it's good to have those words speaking in my favor. I also think that the PROCESS of preparing all that paperwork, and the ID checking and photographing, and the signing of detailed releases deters a model from bringing false charges against me.

I don't mean to scare you -- there are, I'm sure, millions of x-rated pictures out there that were "made between friends", and there will never be a problem between either party. But if you don't know the person you're photographing extremely well, then I recommend taking extra precautions to ensure that you can prove that the shoot happened in a friendly and consentual way, and that you're also able to use the photos in the ways you and the model agreed upon.

Happy shooting!

All places that develop pictures are required to call the police if they have suspected child pornography. Some stores have their own guidelines as to what they will develop. Most will print nudity but some won't print any form of penitration. This all depends on if they actually look at the pictures too. If they don't print them they are supposed to give you back your negatives. If this happens take them somewhere else or send them off.

Hi Cronin,
Thanks for the kind words.

You mentioned another digi-camera. A SLR. Before you purchase, may I suggest you look at the newest Canon 8 MB camera EOS-1D Mark II.

The price may be comparable. I had a Nikon. I am now using Canon G3. Very high quality 4 MB pictures. Hope to post some results when I get back from CTG next month.

Enjoy.

Hi NYC Expat,

I'll look forward to those posts with your Canon. All the camera choices seem to be a trading off between the good the bad and the ugly qualities in each choice.

I guess I've become stuck on the idea of a digital SLR for the higher image quality afforded by the lenses. And the prices are about the same as the advanced single lens digital cameras.

The Canon EOS Rebel had a lot going for it. It seems to be a very popular camera, all those photographers can't be wrong. And Canon is heavily supported in the PRC. I live in Guangzhou, and there are several Canon outlet shop fronts here. I have yet to see a Nikon outlet anywhere, might be some in Hong Kong.

There seems to be a lot of jawboning about purple fringing in both the Canon Rebel and the Nikon D70. I've seen the images from the Nikon, and it does seem to be rather noticable in low light conditions (which is where I'll most use it, of course) and gets intolerable at higher ISO sensitivity. It seems weird that no one (according to the reviewer) knows what is causing this, but if the culprit is in the digital sensor, there probably won't be any improvement in the new Canon EOS. In fact it could be worse with the higher resolution. (BTW, this makes me sounds like I know what I'm talking about, but I really don't know too much.)

I've also seen the vignetting on the Nikon images and that is a real disappointment, both to the reviewer and to me. I guess those ghosts could be corrected in PS, but what a hell of a job that would be. It looks like some of the weird stuff which comes out of my cheap little Canon A40.

So the Nikon D70 was far from a perfect choice, but I netted out on the fact that it is new equipment and the Rebel has been out there for a while. However, that new Canon EOS sounds interesting. I'd be willing to wait a little while for it to come out, I'm not in any burning hurry. But if it doesn't appear before June, I'd have to go get something else or it will be a long blurry summer.

Here's a question for you or anyone else interested. I probably will only buy a single lens to start out with after dropping $1000 USD on the SLR body. Any recommendations on which lens to get? You know the kind of images I do. Model at from 10 inches to about 6 feet from the camera. Never wide angle or telephoto of course.

Another Canon A40 image at 1400x1600 (highest) res, super fine compression (highest), downloaded to iMac iPhoto as jpeg and then into PS 7.0 as jpeg, minimal editing (some tone adjustment in the reds and some unsharp mask) and resized to 640x480 at PS compression setting 12: image of a Girl in a Guangzhou Barbershop.

Hi Cronin,
I still have my 35 mm. Pentax with several lens. I enjoyed using a wide angel/portrait zoom lens, 35 to 85 mm. Or perhaps 40-105 zoom is recommendable.

You'll want one with macro for those close ups you and others on this board enjoy viewing. Only drawback with macro is sharp images because of movement when releasing the shutter. Here a tripod and self-timer is recommended.

Most important, read the reviews, do your homework before investing on the body and lens you prefer. I am sure you will. I've seen many of your pictures and they are good. When the equipment gets better, the shots and enthusiam on your part will explode. Have fun.

Cronin,

For the current mission, a zoom len with the focal length of 35-70mm should be the best. Pay little $ extra for the fixed maximum f/stop, which (1) the f/stop will not be compensated when you change the zoom focal length, (2) will better handle the low ambient light and close-up situation, respectively. I personally recommend the 35-70mm f/2.8 zoom len.

Also, with the digital SLR camera, you should pay attention to the CCD sensor specification. For the Nikon digital SLR series, the CCD sensor factor (lens image coverage) is x1.5. That is your lens focal length, for example 35-70mm, will be multiply by 1.5 to 50-105mm (round-off).

BTW, I do enjoy your outstanding works. Keep up the good works.

I finally tracked down the new Canon 8 mega pixel EOS-1D Mark II on the Digital Photography Review page (dpreview.com). Its not yet been released, just announced. And I remembered seeing that annoncement somewhere when NYC Expat mentioned this camera.

Omigod, what a camera. Omigod what a price: $4,500 USD. Sans lens, of course. Yikes. It would be a real kick just to see one of those, and it would be even more fun to see someone knowledgable put it through its paces. I can't even understand the specs on the review page let alone how to use this digital Stratavarius.

Seems to me that Canon is out to claim undisputed king of the hill with this instrument. But what the hell do I know, I'm still making painfully pathetic images of really pretty girls, like the overexposed nonsense below.

Oldtime Monger
03-26-04, 00:58
The early reviews on the Canon ID Mark II are impressive and it is clearly vastly improved over the earlier model which was introduced in September 2001. That being said however, I would only purchase this DSLR camera if you're planning to do primarily sports or action photography because of how quickly this camera autofocuses and rapid 8.5 frames per second shooting and the maximum burst of 40 images. If you're planning to do mostly glamour and portrait photography, I'd recommend the 6.3 MP Canon 10D with a CMOS sensor; at $1,500, it is $3,000 less than the street price of a new 1D. I do a significant amount of sports photography, so the chances of me trading in my old 1D for the new model are good.

Cronin,

Eight megs is old hat by now and you don't need to spend $4,500 dollars to have that. My new Sony DSC-F828 is a a meg camera for under $1000 dollars. If you want a really really big file the Kodka based on the Nikon F5 is over 13 megs.

The problem with these big file size is they take up lots os space on the cameras card and the images are slower to load because they are so dam big. With a 5 or 6 meg camera shot at max the image is between 14 and 18 megs, so only about 60 shots on a one gig card. Now go to 8 megs and you get only about 36 shots to a one gig card.

How many cards can you carry? To do a 300 shot shoot and not downlaod cards you need 8 to 9 cards. I don't know about you but if I stop to download I find the girls lose interest.

BEST PUNTHER DIGITAL CAMERA. 1.3 MEGAPIXELS , only $49
Vivitar 3345 WITH FLASH*****.

Punthers,

For those that manage to convice the providers to let you take some pics. (always offer to do faceless pics for the shy ones. Pose from behind, doggy style, which happen to be the best , see the ass and pussy at the same time :) Or pussy spread with pillow covering face.

I have found the best compromise to do punther pics.

The vivitar 3345. They are going for $49 at Walmart currently.

http://www.vivitar.com/Products/DigCams/1mpdsc.html#V3345

Also get a rechargeable kit , about $19 - $25 to save on batteries.

For those who travel, it is perfect. If you lose it, it's no major loss.

** It has FLASH which is critical for us mongers, since our pics take place inside with low lightings most of the time.

Will be posting some pics in the next few days.

My Sony DSC-F717 5 mpix optical zoom, with night vision shot, and with the patented Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lense is just fine thank you! It may be kinda bulky, but it serves me well when I am trying to take long range shots of the SW's across the street.

The night vision feature allows me to take pix during low to zero light conditions without having to use a flash...minimizing detection when I am trying to take pix of girls who don't want their photos taken in the first place.

I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with these little video cameras. You know, the ones that keep popping up when you're trying to surf the web.

I was thinking about installing one in the headliner of my car, disguised as a dome light or overhead console (depending on the size.

I could run the wires to a laptop computer or video deck and record any activities that might occur in the car.

If anyone has tried this or anything similar, please let me know.

I was able to use a handheld video camera once while getting a bj. The trick was to keep some music on when you shut off the car. Also, if your LCD screen flips out and all the way around, set it up that way so you can see what you're pointing at. I could have done a much better job if I had done that before.

I don't think Jackson allow video, but I'll see if I can save a pic from it to post.

Topic: Photographs of SWs on the street and during sessions.

I realize that it can be difficult getting photographs of SWs, but it can be done. I know that a lot of you probably don't have cameras, but even the throw-a-ways they have today can get the job done.
The best way of handling this situation is this; when you approach the SW on the street or in the car, tell them you wish to take photographs of them. Don't even talk about sex or money for sex till you know 100% that she's not a cop.
The SW will probably charge a little extra for photographs being taken, but it beats the cost of being busted.
Once in the motel room or her place, be sure to take the photographs first before you talk about extra activity and price. Cops will not take their clothes off or allow you to touch them while setting them up in a pose. Always assure the girl that you won't have their face in the photographs. Now maybe some won't mind it, but always double check with the SW before you go posting photographs of her on here with the face shown.
Cops can't bust you for taking photographs!
Always try to get some information on her. Where she usually walks, her first name, and a description as best as you can. In other words, specifics about her!
Be smart on the street you guys! The cops are setting up stings across the country to bust men. Turn into a photographer so you greatly decrease your chance of being busted.

Whoopster,
been looking into the same thing myself because my camcorder just makes too much noise and wont stash as easily. Havent purchased anything yet as specs and prices are all over the place, but I feel wireless may be a good option for obvious reasons. You may also consider infrared if you do your mongering in low light but its drawbacks are no color picture and the infrared has small LED lights that the SW may notice. Some will do both and switch over when the light gets low enough but they cost much more. Other specs to consider will be more lines of resolution for better picture quality and a low lux rating if you dont get infrared. Let me know if you stumble on anything worthwile. PM me if youd like.

Reno Dude,
It sounds like a great plan but IMHO its a bit impractical as routine proceedure. As someone who always tries to get pics of the girls I pick up, I usually get one of three answers:
1. Okay.
2. How much more you gonna pay?
3. No fucking way!
Even when I assure them it will just be a pussy shot and no one will see thier face, my success ratio is still only about 1 in 5. Also, I find many SW's are in a hurry to get on with buisiness so beating around the bush about your true intentions may cause problems. Theres plenty of other effective ways to make sure your not dealing with a cop. Good luck with it anyway.

Downunder,
great shots of some nice women but if they're from the US you may get a much wider and more appreciative audience by posting them in the section: United States/General Information/Street Walker Photos. Unless you'd like to comment on the camera that took them of coarse! Still nice shots.

I hope Downunder is not claiming to have taken those photos. I don't know about all of them but I'm the one that took the #2 picture he lists below. It's my picture that I posted. I'm not sure if he is trying to take credit when he posts "MY top 5". In any event, I don't like when people take photos and claim they took them or post/link to them in any way! Guys, if you didn't take the photos don't report or link to them. It's not cool. I'll never understand why guys do this. The funniest was when some dude emailed me a photo that I took and tried claiming he took it!

As far as the camera I used... I used a Olympus C-50 5 meg digital camera in the highest quality setting. The room was very very dark. I took about 20 photos of her and she was GREAT. The camera is great and I get great results. If you want an idea of what kind of quality you can get with outdoor shots go to some other sections that I posted non-chica photos in. I'll list them below.

There are now stand-alone cd-writers available that burn straight from your memory card onto a cd.
And it doesn't take a computer.

Saint or anyone who help - I got a camera related question. I got a 4 pixal Kodak digital camera with a lagging shutter but it does the job. Were I have the problem is in low lighting situations where I can't see what I'm shooting. Is there anything I can do or that just common to most digital camera's ??

JMG
08-07-04, 22:11
Yeah... that's a problem with non-SLR cameras. You're at the mercy of the sensivity of the image sensor when you're trying to frame a pic in almost no light. Even if you can get a proper exposure in the dark by slowing down shutter speed, you can't see the little screen to frame the shot.

About the only thing you can do is use the optical viewfinder if you have one.

It's probably not worth it to buy another camera, but I know Sony makes some digital models with infrared capability and laser focusing -- I've gotten some surprisingly good pics in the dark with that camera (B&W, but bright and in focus).

Whoopster
08-08-04, 19:30
Hey downunder,

My suggestion on the low light problem is to just shoot anyway, but take a bunch of pictures. The great thing about digital is you can throw away the bad ones and it doesn't cost anything.

I find that if I want a shot bad enough, but I'm in bad lighting or whatever, I can usually get at least one decent pic if I take a bunch of shots.

I use a Canon Digital Rebel with the standard lens. It doesn't have a lot of zoom, but I'll be getting a 300 mm lens soon.

Also, using Photoshop or some other image processing software really helps a lot. You can brighten and sharpen to save what would otherwise be throw-aways if they were on film.

Good luck out there.

Guys,

I just got a new digital camera, an Olympus C-5060WZ (5.1 mp).
Now I need to put it to good use. I know this topic is primarily about photo equipment but please allow me to "broaden" the subject, so to speak. Another necessity for the photography that we're interested in, is a willing model. What have you found guys found to be the best way to locate models. I have found some websites with model listings although I think would tend to prefer amateur talent, at least until I have more experience as well. Has anyone tried something like Craigslist.com or any of the model discussion forums? What kind of a response did you get?

What should I expect to pay a model (I'm in So. Calif.)? I imagine that there will be some difference between their asking price and the market price but right now I have no idea what that might be. I am going to a photoshoot in about a week. Unfortunately, it's just glamour/swimware with no nudity or even string bikinis. But for $30, at least five models and no more than five photographers per model, I figure it's worth it to get a little experience working with some models.

Thanks for any tips and I'll pass on what I learn.

I would think in CALI there would be no shortage of starving wannabe actresses and models that you could snag for a reasonable fee to do a shoot. Try submitting an ad in the job section of your local paper. An offer to burn the girl a disc with all her pics on it for her portfolio may provide further incentive.

Something to know about the cell phones with picture-taking capabilities: Many public swimming pools, gyms, etc., are banning them. They don't want someone in the locker room taking photos of kids changing clothes. I've seen signs at my town's swimming pool telling the lifeguards to confiscate any of the photo-cell phones they see. They'll keep them in the office until you're done with your workout, then they'll let you have the phone back.

Well, I finally upgraded my trusty, old Canon A40 to a Canon 300D. I got the new all black model, its a beauty. I'm really happy with it.

I had decided to stay with Canon instead of jumping ship to the Nikons. Brand loyalty counted for a lot of that. I never had one single problem with the A40, other than it took shitty photos (IMHO). I really liked the new G6, based on the on-line specs, and was leaning toward that over the 300D. But when I went out and actually held them both in my hand, the SLR won hands down. The look and feel of the 300D is a world apart from the little G6. It seemed to me like more of an actual upgrade, based on my current skill level. And I was willing to bite the bullet on the size and weight portability factor.

Now, the problem is, I am so far down on the learning curve that I am having trouble generating images that are much better than my old A40. The one thing that I really wanted was better resolution. And so far, I'm not getting that. I have mostly very soft resolution. One problem for sure is that I can't hold the camera still no matter how hard I try. Even using a tripod isn't getting the job done. Occaisonally, I get a beautiful crisp image, maybe one out of twenty or so tries. So I know the 300D can do it. I just can't make it happen on purpose, seems to be a random event. Obviously, the camera is up to the task, but I'm not. But I've only had the SLR for 3 weeks, so I'll get better...I hope. Its pretty frustrating right now though.

Here's a couple of images I took recently. The color is way better than the old A40. That means a lot less work in PS retouch, which is a good thing, since that is an art form in itself which I have never fully mastered. Anyway, comments gladly accepted.

Hi Cronin,

Just to say that I was a rather silent but avid fan of your photo adventures.

I feel that you may have this problem with the 300Dbecause it israther bulky and heavier than your previous camera. This in turn leads to shake when you press the shutter button. This can be seen even when you use the tripod.

I'm using the G5 and and had that minimal jitter which causes my pix to look very soft on normal sizes and somewhat out of focus when i really blow it up to max size.

I hope that helps and I'm not talking thru my ass!

Hello guys,

I will be traveling to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China soon. Being in the market for a new digital point and shoot, I was wondering would it be cheaper to buy a camera there or get it stateside? If any of you camera buffs could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year,

Mat:

I'm not an expert by any means, but I just spent several months trying to make the same choice on a new camera. This is some of what I learned. I think the conventional wisdom certainly is that almost any camera is going to be cheaper in Hong Kong than anywhere else in the world, especially the USA.

There are several caveats, though. People are waiting in line to cheat you in Hong Kong, and in ways that you would never think of until after the fact. Just one example: Apparently there are many gray market cameras which go for full price. In fact, I've heard that there are businesses which will determine for you if you have purchased a gray market camera or not, but that is only after you have been cheated. Or they will switch out only part of the camera for some knock off part to get a few extra bucks. There are some threads discussing the Hong Kong Camera Purchase topic on various photo discussion boards, just search on google, you should find it easily.

Having said all that, though, I should tell you that I finally bought my new Canon 300D in a little shop here in Guangzhou, PRChina. I decided that I could get almost the same deal with a lot of haggling, maybe within a thousand RMB or so. I finally paid 6400 RMB for the 300D "kit" which includes the lens. And I also wanted to develop a "customer relationship" with a local shop, which can be very helpful at times since repeat customers are valued and treated differently.

If you purchase in Hong Kong, here's some things that will minimize the rip-off factor. 1) Even though many people speak good English, take along a Cantonese speaking native if at all possible. The BS will be much less when the salesperson is talking to a native rather than a laowei. 2) Stick to the major camera dealers like "Broadway", more professional tends to be more reputable. 3) Go to a cheaper area of Hong Kong like Mong Kok and bargain vigorously. Avoid Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, too many tourist eating sharks. There's supposed to be a "Photographers street" in Central with reputable shops catering to pros, but again, this seems to be the high rent district to me. 4) BTW, I would say don't purchase in Shenzhen. There is a lot of money washing around in Shenzhen, and everything tends to be pricier.

Finally, consider this. If you are looking to purchase a 200-300 US dollar point and shoot, it probably doesn't matter all that much where you buy it. Sure, you could save maybe 50 bucks over a mail order deal, but the time and trouble to get that 50 wandering around Hong Kong may not be worth it. Personally, I know I'd spend 1000 RMB just having fun in the city, so I'd spend more than I saved.

Here's a photo from my new Canon 300D SLR. This is a favorite cafe along the infamous "Road of Gold" SW area in Guangzhou, about 1 in the morning. I had to take 6 or 8 images at various settings, all in RAW, and then process the best RAW image, the TIFF image and the JPEG compression to get one good shot. Are we having fun yet? Well, yeah...

I know I'm not the only one that feels this way but just would like to say Thanks for All of your Work / pics / info. Some of us are just getting on the photography boat and really are thankful for your sharing camera info and real pics, the kind we like to see from these cameras. I have been looking here http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos300d.asp for info a point and shoot 5mp digital for my next trip. I have narrowed it down to the Canon S500 and the Sony DSCW1, leaning more on the Sony because of its video quality. I took a Canon rebel Ti film camera to LOS last year and got tired carrying the thing around. I was and still am a nubie. Lots of tips in the forums of the above site, even Canon 300D camera specific forums that might help you out a bit. http://forums.dpreview.com********forum.asp?forum=1031&page=10 Thanks Again! Most digital photos fail becasue of camera shake. Take a look at the several of the Minolta that have anti-shake technology built into the camera. It gives you about 4 to 8 times sharper photos in the same light. I think is available on the Z-3, Z-4, A-2, A-200 and Maxxum 7D.

In addition to (or insead of) a camera with a stabilizer, a fast shutter speed can help sharpen pictures that are out of focus due to camera shake.

If you use full auto mode, the camera will open the iris AND slow the shutter speed to let in enough light to properly expose the photo. If your camera has the option, use the "shutter priority" mode and set your shutter to 1/125 or faster. The camera will then fix the shutter speed at the desired setting, and provide an automatic iris setting and/or flash intensity to properly expose the picture. A lot of times even the digital point-and-shoot cameras have a "shutter priority" feature, accessible via the menus.

In general, shutter speeds of 1/125 will significantly reduce or eliminate camera shake problems, shutter speeds of 1/250 or faster will provide clear stop motion in high-motion scenes. Shutter speeds at 1/60 will work if you consiously hold the camera very still. Speeds below 1/60 will likely have blur due to handheld camera instability.

It might help if you gave us some specifics. Little things like what camera? What computer? What O/S? What interface between the camera and computer? What software are you using? What kind of problems are you having? Did it ever work? Have you added new software or made other changes since it last worked? You need this kind of information if you hope to get someone to help you sort out your problem.

Is the image stabilization EIS or OIS? There is a world of difference. EIS uses pixels from the image to stabilize the frame - sacraficing quality for stability. OIS is Optical as opposed to Electronic, and is purely a function of the chip maintaining full image quality and size in the end.

My Go To Camera (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikoncp990/) I never found a reason to upgrade, until I found this out.

When Canon introduced the Digital Rebel, the world's first entry-level digital SLR camera, many remarked on its similarities to the 10D , its $500 more expensive big brother. In fact, the two cameras share much of the same technology and so Canon implemented a number of software-based limitations to avoid destroying sales of the professional-oriented 10D.

Now, a new hack (http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/18/90/) that restores previously hidden menu along with a few additional tricks has added nearly all of those 10D features to the Rebel, with an arguably superior user interface to boot.

I thought this would be helpful and this seems to be the only tech tip thread so ......

I'm on my back up computer right now,,,a power surge zapped my main machine and I had to seek assistance from a tech friend to wipe and re-install windows.

So after seeing the workers on construction sites being required to use GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) with their power tools I decided to protect my computer and related electronics the same way from a power surge by plugging my equipment into the GFCI outlet then into the wall socket.

http://www.doityourself.com/stry/gfci

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/99.html

GFCI is much more sensitive than those silly power strips sold in Home Depot...it will break off the power if there is any sudden change in the power folw.

I purchased the outlet and plastic box at Leow's. Then attached the male end of an extension cord across the circuit to make a GFCI adapter,,,which will hopefully protect my computer from shock.

If you know more about or have experience with GFCI,,,please feel free to give feed back here........G61

GFI's are a very handy and system saving device. Though I am not sure they would protect a system from a serious surge (like from a transformer short or lightening strike).

In nearly all new construction and many resales, GFI's are required to be in the bathroom and kitchen. Their advantage here is their lower and quicker response to surges. Designed to protect you when you step out of the shower and grab the hair dryer or whatever.

Another thing with GFI's is you really on need one per circuit. Placed first in line, they will activate and disconnect all the outlets down line.

Someone put three in my kitchen and occasionally one will kick off resulting in none of the other outlets working. Such as the toaster (not a real problem), dishwasher (again not a real issue) and refrigerator (now that could be an issue).

So I'd really check more into it before using one as a single source of protection. it may be too sensitive and turn the computer off unnecessarily. But then that may be more advantageous than having to have the computer rebuilt or the OS reinstalled. But do keep in mind that too many just powering off shutdowns can be just as destructive to the system. Files and apps don't close properly and it is also rough on the hard drive(s).

I'd invest in a battery back up that will absorb a major surge, disconnect the power but still give you ample time to safely shut the computer down normally.

These two have two different purposes. The GFCI is designed to trip when the power going out is not returned. You have two (usa) slots on your receptacle plus the ground hole. The larger slot in the neutral and the smaller slot is positive (hot). If the flow of electricity (AMPs) leaving the positive is not equal to the amount returning to the neutral, the GFCI will trip and disconnect power. It is like a see-saw, have to have same weight on both sides. Electricity is like water, it will flow in the path of least resistances. So if a bare wire to ground, dropped in water or poor wire insulation occurs it will trip. A surge suppressor, activates when voltage is raised past a certain level. This is like a balloon. When you first blow in it, it will stand out with right amount of air. If you blow harder it will stretch. The stretching is the extra surge. This is when the suppressor trips ie lightening, short on circuit. Most now a days are a combination of both. GFCI are mainly used when water might be a factor ie bathroom kitchen and outside circuits. Surge suppressors are used for electronic equipment ie tv and computers. A GFCI only WILL NOT protect electronic equipment properly.

Glenn61 --

A GFCI doesn't do what you think it does... GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter and does NOT do surge protection.

Basically, all a GFCI does is cut the main power to a device when it senses a loss of electrical current between the hot and neutral phases (such as in the case of a three-pronged plug, with a hot, neutral and ground connection) in a device or electrical circuit.

The ground connection is there to bleed errant electricity safely away should something go wrong with the equipment connected to the circuit. In normal operation, there would be no power at all on the ground wire. The hot and neutral wires provide power to the connected device.

If, however, you were to drop your GFCI-connected computer into the bathtub (for example), then power would flow from the hot and neutral connectors inside the computer through the water (water is a good conductor of electricity) to the GROUNDED metal computer case and possibly to the GROUNDED metal bathtub drain. The computer in your bathtub creates a "ground fault." Once the GFCI detects a loss of energy between the hot and neutral phases (even a very little - they're really sensitive) it cuts the main power to the device, thus saving you from possible electrocution.

But they don't do ANYTHING to suppress power surges on the hot or neutral wires that actually carry the power to your computer. For that you need to buy a good surge protector.

That's it as I know it. But bear in mind -- I'm not an electrician, I just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Glenn,

Thanks for the camera tip, and for all the pics taken with it.

Sgtperv and JMG are right on about the gfi's. They're built to protect people, not equipment.

A good surge protector will protect the computer from physical damage, but not from the software problems that can come from the computer going on and off quickly, which can bother some systems. For that, as somebody mentioned, you need a UPS (uninteruptable power supply), which is a battery back up that provides a few minutes of power. APC is a good brand of both surge protector and UPS. Most of the time a PC is fine with the power shut down, though. I don't use a UPS at home, but do at work.

For a surge strip, if you have a phone line or network line running into the computer, you should have that plugged into the surge protector, too. The most common way for equipment to be damaged isn't from a surge on the power line, it's from a surge between the power and something else. So, all the lines should be protected by a common device, so the surges run through it, not through the computer. If you have a printer, or anything else connected directly to the computer, it should be plugged into the same surge strip as the computer. If you have a printer, and a UPS, then the computer should be plugged into the UPS, and the UPS plugged into a surge strip; then the printer should be connected to the same surge strip.

Sorry if this stuff is off-topic. Used to do network design in a past job, figured I could give a little back. You guys posting the photos are doing an awesome job! Wish I could find something worth photographing.

Good to know SgtPerv and JMG,,,I was not sure about how GFI works but I do see it widely used.

I had my computer plugged into a surge protector strip but it was not worth a damn.

Glenn61,

Get yourself a small ups with and use an external surge strip and hope you don't have a major surge or spike. The guys are correct GFI does not protect against surges and neither does a surge strip installed by itself. Surge suppression is a 3 step process, 1. Major surge device installed where power enters your dwelling. 2. Secondary suppression on the circuit panel. 3. Surge strips at the equipment. The idea is each step cuts the spike in half so the remaining little spike in voltage can be handled by the cheap surge strip. Without steps 1 &2 the spike simply jumps the connectors in the cheap surge strip and fries your equipment.

I like to post my Latest Action in pics and vids,,,and I started out with a crappy HP camera that had internal storage and only held 16 pics.
Then later I got the Casio Exilim slim 5 meg camera that used an SD card and had a 4x optical zoom.

Now I using the Casio Exilim 8.1 meg - EX-V8.
It has an amazing 7X optical zoom in a little peep hole,,how they did that I can't imagine, but it's impressive.

On line for about $225..... it uses a cradle to USB to your computer and charge the excellent battery.

Add a 4 GIG SDcard and you can take over 10 thousand pics or shoot 1-3 hours of vid,,depending upon the quality setting.

This is a monger's best tool for catching all the action,,it has a record lamp that stays on and allows light sensitivity settings that shoots clear without a flash,,I highly recommend this camera.

I protect my gear with a Uninterupted Power Supply (UPS) a.k.a. battery backup. Probably more expensive than a GFI but worth it. It's not just the power spikes that you need protection from, it also protects you from outages and "brownouts". Brownouts are worse than spikes.

Battery backups are available in many places so shop around.

Seriously though,,,,,Uninterupted Power Supply ..thanks.

I'll hang on to the adapter I made for when I use my Saws-all or other power tools.

Actually P&S makes a TVSS that is the same size and shape of a regular residential plug. Does the same as high dollar surge strips without having the strip shown. They even do a recessed one for wall mount plasma and lcd tv's. They run about 30 bucks and I found them only because my lcd's looked crappy with surge strips all under them.

Third you guessed it BUY CANON. I would sugest the new EOS Rebel T1i (digital SLR). Its a 15 mega pixel still camera that also does HD Video. You should be able to pick one up with a lens for les than $900. With this camera you can use any of Canons great lens.

If thats too expensive check out their PowerShot line of point and shot cameras. I would sugest buying a higher end point and shot that has a hot shoe (conection for an exturnal flash attachment). I have looked at the PowerShot G10 as a back-up for my DSLR and would have probably allready bought one but I am saving my pennies for either an upgrade to a eos50D or maybe the new Rebel since it offers video.

Reno DudeJust having a camera in the car can get you out of trouble with the cops. I picked up a girl once and had her pose for me. On the way back to where I picked her up we got pulled over. As soon as he hit us with the flashers I told the girl "All we did was take photos, stick to that no mater what the cops tell you" Luckly she did not let me take any pics while we were having sex. I showed him the pics I took of her and he let us go. I got pulled over a second time befor we made it to the hotel. I had not even asked her about pics. Again I told her to stick to the story. This time the cop told me I was lying about the pics. I showed him my camera bag and the contents and told him I had over$3000 worth equipment and did I look stupid enough to bring that kind of equipment into the hood if I was not planing on using it? He hasseled us for a few more minutes then let us go. Like you said,"Cops can't bust you for taking photographs!"

I would agree with this if you are talking point and shoots, but if you want a DSLR, get a Nikon. Canon DSLRs are OK, but Nikons are better. The Rebels are not built anywhere near as well as the inexpensive Nikon DSLRs, and once you get up into the better built models, the Canons are bulky and heavy, and nowhere near as ergonomically designed as the Nikons.

There's no better DSLR for under $1000 nowadays than a Nikon D90.

If you read the forums and frequent the sites you will find people from both camps who switch from one brand to the other, and sometimes back again. Canon does make some lenses that Nikon doesn't and that fills some folk's needs. Like the Ef-s 17-55 f2.8is, or the 24-105 f4is, which is the lens that took the official portrait of Obama. I happen to own the latter and it is fantastic. One recent pic taken at 1/4 sec./handheld was pin sharp. I was stunned. They also don't make an 85 1.2, which is the premier people lens and one that many photographers would not do without, and even though Nikon has made great strides in their cameras like the d700 and d3, a lot of folks won't switch because of that lens. Granted Nikon does make some that Canon doesn't either like the 200-400 f4, but at a cost of several $K it's only for pro nature photogs.

I'm well aware that both systems can easily take professional quality photos in the hands of the right photographer. I was just tweaking the Canon fanboy - who seemed to think that there was only one possible brand choice for a DSLR, and then proceeded to recommend Canon's poorest-constructed toy of a DSLR, instead of the vastly better 40D or 50D.

I've used every major brand of film camera, as well as multiple brands of Digital cameras. They all make competent cameras, but by no means are all photographers competent, no matter what the camera they are using. But it is generally true that Canon's SLRs are weak in ergonomics, even if they are strong in specs and sensor quality.

If you compare the specs these cams appear very similar. SS/plastic v Al/plastic. Neither one has micro adjust, which would top my list in features wanted. Both shoot video but I haven't read a comparison. The D90 seemed crippled in that department, but it was the first dslr w/video. If you have seen any of the videos shot w/5dmkII and 85 1.2 or similar fast lens, they are breathtaking. No more supersized dof like in most video cams that have tiny sensors. You see slim dof w/beautiful bokeh as seen in motion picture cameras, but with an expanded iso range. Low light photography at it's best. Pentamirror v pentaprism. That's a difference but you pay in weight and size.

It will be interesting to see the head to head tests with regard to these two cams.

I want to upgrade my camera, however I want to buy a digital camera that does NOT have image stabilization. The pictures I take usually are of SW's on the street. So I need something that will take the shot when I hit the damn button. Not 10 seconds later, by then the girl is at the end of the block & nothing more than a dot in the horizon. Any suggestions?

You want a digital camera, so I assume that means a point and shoot rather than a dslr, and shutter lag is your most important feature. Here is a shutter lag comparison from last year: http://www.cameras.co.uk/html/shutter-lag-comparisons.cfm?sort=ShutterLag

If Jackson blanks that out just google shutter lag comparison 2008.

If you find that there just isn't that much difference between those cams, try looking here for a comparison of superzoom cams: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/q209grouplongzoom/

If Jackson blanks that out go to dpreview and search for compact superzoom group test. The Panasonic ZS3 wins.

My suggestion would be to get an inexpensive dslr and a 70-300 zoom with image stabilization. Virtually no shutter lag, and you'll get usable night shots because of the much bigger sensor.

Canon Xsi goes for $640 at B+H. 70-300is goes for $550, or you could get the 55-250 for $255.

There's no better DSLR for under $1000 nowadays than a Nikon D90.

If you read the forums and frequent the sites you will find people from both camps who switch from one brand to the other, and sometimes back again. Canon does make some lenses that Nikon doesn't and that fills some folk's needs. Like the Ef-s 17-55 f2.8is, or the 24-105 f4is which is the lens that took the official portrait of Obama.
Cannon or Nikon..........Decisions,Decisions, it's all a matter of preference and what model is more comfortable while taking pic's.(how it fits in your hand). True, Nikon don't make an 85 f/1.2 lens but they have a 85mm f/1.4 lens. Both cost well over $1000.00

Also nikon has a 17-55mm f/2.8 lens and a comparable 24-70mm f/2.8 lens(Not "VR", Nikons version to Cannons "IS") to Cannons 24-105 mm f4 L IS. Again, Both cost well over $1000.00

Nikon D3 camera: $3,499.95
Nikon D700 camera: $2,300.00
Cannon 5D Mark II camera:$2,699

The above cameras and lenses are professional grade equipment; the stuff used in National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Playboy, Hustler ect......ect.
I would bet at least, 97% of the mongers on this board don't have a DSLR camera, unless photography happened to be a hobby also;) The basic Point and Shoot cameras definately serve their purpose on this forum.

Some guys take great street shots of SW's with their P&S cams; but could you imagine if they had a nice Zoom lens mounted on a DSLR?!?! Even at nite!!

Canon brought out their 17-55 after Nikon and decided to add IS to it and it has become a very popular lens for the crop cam.

Canon also makes a 24-70 f2.8, and some feel an upgrade to IS is imminent.

The 24-105 f4 is also very popular, especially with folks w/full frame cams. Could be the perfect walk around lens. I picked up mine used from a member on another forum for $850 as he wanted to get the faster 24-70. It rocks.

Baldy was using a dslr until it got pinched by a ROb. He also took pics through tinted windows so the subjects had no clue. That is genius.

I have posted pics. If you click on me you will find. The first pic I posted got some good feedback from some of the mongers here. Basically a shot of a breast w/50 1.4@1.4 iso 1600 I believe, on full frame. Some girls don't want any pics taken at all and others get enthusiastic when you bring out the cam. Go figure. Just another hobby for me, as I don't claim to have any talent whatsoever. One of the girls has indicated that she would like some bikini shots taken of her. I wonder what I should charge.

Nikon don't make a "Nikon AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED" lens with VR/IS. (Image Stabilization)

The closest thing to a 17-55mm in Nikon's lineup with VR (vibration reduction) is Nikon 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G AF-S VR (Consumer/Kit lens)

Somewhere along the line you've got bad information; Cannon never bought out a Nikon lens. The rivalry offered by these competitors is too strong for that. Must've been part of this April Fools rumor:www.photographybay.com/2008/04/01/canon-and-nikon-combine-forces-on-open-format-dslrs/

It's nice to be able to use all Nikon lenses on both the Fuji and the Nikon....but we're talking about mongers shooting SWs here...not National Geographic. I do professional photography, and I get as many SW shots as I do because I have studio in the house and when they come in we make use of it...props and all.
You'll do just fine with a point and shoot. In fact, when I'm going out to take pictures for personal enjoyment, that's all I use! I lug around all that equipment for a living-when I'm on vacation, zoo for enjoyment or otherwise, I simply use an el-cheapo point and shoot. If you're not intending to blow something up to billboard size, most consumers really don't need $1,000+ equipment when you can get a good Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc point and shoot for under $200

Extreme enlargements are not the only advantages to a dslr. Some girls get down right giddy at the sight of a "gripped" cam; or useable high iso for decent night shots, or if you're stopped by le w/provider the cam becomes a legitimate excuse: I'm a photog and this is my model.

I should have been more clear...what I should have said is that you don't need a 34 megapixel or anything that "extreme". As for your "legitimate excuse" concept...you have another good point. I actually heard of a case where a monger was busted with a SW and because he had videotaped their "encounter" the DA was unable to prosecute. It immediately became a free speech issue where he had videotaped just the same as any "amatuer porn" DVD you can buy on the market.

As for the Fuji FinePix.....I, too, have one - and that is what I use for my point and shoot photos. I love it. I must admit that my sister has a Sony and it has its advantages...primarily the large 3" LCD. ENJOY!!

I don't own a recent p+s so I can't give advice from experience. Your initial post mentioned the 10 second lag, but I think you were being facetious. A cursory review of some cams seemed to suggest that modern digicams have a full press lag of less that 1 second, and most from .5 sec. or less.

Go to dpreview and click on camera database on the left side of the screen then scroll down until you find the manufacturer of your choice and click on the that. You will see all of the cams that that manufacturer has produced. Find the p+s that you are interested in and if it has "indepth review" in green in the window you will find the stat "full press lag" in the review. This is the stat that will help you the most. Manufacturers don't use uniform standards with regards to shutter lag, so dpreview came up with it's own measurement.

I don't think you can turn off the IS function on a p+s. What you can do to minimize the effect is to pre focus your shot so that the cam has less info to push through it's processor.

I have a D90 and I bought my with a canon 1100, the canon is a nice P&S comapred to the last pos P&S we had. I took my D90 once just to try and snap some pics os SW's but I would never pick one up if I had it in the truck with me. The D40 has come way down in price and it gets good reviws if someoen wanted a decent DSLR to start with.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm

I read about a camera last week, I think it was a casio it had a slow motion feature on it, I think it said you could look at things in slow motion thru the view finder and then snap the picture at exatly when you wanted to, seemed like a nice feature. I tried to find that article but didn't have any luck.

The D90 does take HD video the only draw back is you focus start taking the movie and it can't refucus after starting so if u move or if what u are filming moves it may not be in focus, but if you have it on a tripod that isn't a problem.

Yeah I can still take shots. Sometimes they come out okay but not as sharp as that 1st shot I took.

I have read the cd-rom manual from begining to end 3X's already. I still have not figured it out yet. I have the ISO on Auto, I am not sure if that's the problem?

Auto iso may be affecting your pics by giving you the lowest iso because you're shooting in daylight, and hence a slower shutter speed. That's why stuff in your pics is sharp but the girls aren't. You need to boost the iso to get a faster shutter speed. This may result in grainier/noisier pics, but you can fix that later. Also shoot with the aperture wide open i.e., 2.8 if you have it. The smallest number anyway. Check the exif data on your shots to see what iso, shutter speed, and aperture you have been shooting at and then try to adjust accordingly.

Dude you hit the nail right on the head. The problem was the ISO, all my pics were being taken at ISO 80. I tried ISO 3200 but it decreased the picture quality to 3MP. Then ISO 1600 & ISO 800 create too much noise. So I am using ISO 400 which is making the girls come out sharper. I don't know why the damn manual does not explain ISO better. Anyway thanks man.

If all you're doing is posting 640x_ _ _ resolution pics here then 3mp is fine. Large mp pics just let you print larger or let you digitally "zoom" more. You'll find that when you resize smaller the noise will reduce too. So try out the high iso pics and the resize them to 640 by whatever and see how they come out.

I finally found my first defect on my Samsung TL100 Titanium. When I'm driving & take shots using my right hand only. My index finger is on the shutter button while my thumb is holding the cam on the bottom part, where the small door where the battery goes. Well when I put pressure on that point it makes a false contact inside with the battery which results in the cam turning off. Leaving the lens sticking out & having to turn it on again. It can be a pain in the a$$ when taking the shot at the exact moment only to have it turn off with no shot taken.

I have recently been using a digital SLR from cannon with a 200mm zoom @ L2.8 for most of my street shots. I usually subscribe to the idea of shooting with lowest possible ISO to minimize noise. So I am usually at 100-400 ISO even with the shade produced by the elevated train line. My shutter speed is usually between 1/250 and 1/1000. I do have Image Stability.

My best setting seem to be at 200ISO, 1/1000 and having the subject moving towards me or stationary to minimize the blur. I do not shoot much at the below an F stop of 3.5 because in narrows the focus too much.

I usually shoot at an ISO400 since this allows for less noise to ruin the picture. Sure a higher ISO increases your shutter speed but at the same time it devalues your picture quality.

On another note, my damn battery only lasts about 1 hour until it dies while having it on & taking shots. Anybody know if I can purchase a similar (Samsung rechargable square battery) to the one I have with a longer charge time?

Little cameras eat batteries, so the best solution is to carry some extra ones with you. You can get knock offs fairly cheaply. Type the battery nomenclature into google.

Do you shoot mostly in daylight or night? During the day, I tend to get overexposed pictures while shooting as high as ISO400. My F stop is usually in the 3.0-5.0 range.

As far as batteries, I usually carry a charged spare and spend most of my time with my camera turned off.

Hi sorry I'm jumping in without any prior knowledge of the general camera or batteries. I just discovered this forum has a photography section, and I love photography =)

Little cameras are battery ******, my little one ate them up until I got the nickel metal hydride ones Nimh. You can get a good set for 11 bucks(minus the charger), Energizer or most brands sell them. The higher the number 2500

And above usually last a good long time. My last trip to Sammy's they had these batteries but were lower on the power rating. 2000mah or something to that effect.

If they're knock off of DSLR batteries, totally google 'sterlingtek' batteries. They're dirt cheap, and fantastic knockoffs that last and work in the field in professional settings. They haven't failed me yet.

Sorry for just jumping into the conversation!

I do most of my photo shooting in the day. At night time (when snapping shots of SW's) it is not a good idea. Since lighting is near to none & you never know if your getting the good, the bad or the ugly. Good thing Holt is a day Track.

I will try & purchase a knock off batttery at Samy's Camera.

The battery I need to purchase is a Samsung rechargable square battery. SLB-07A Li-Ion 3.7V 720mAh. I think I may have to get it online?

Generally, there's a huge price difference between OEM vs. 3rd party batteries. Huge difference, but for the SLB-07A, the price difference isn't huge at all.

OEM:http://www.amazon.com/Extended-Replacement-Battery-SLB-07A-DualView/dp/B002T0LR10

3rd party: http://www.adorama.com/IBYSLB07A.html?sid=1265705487794804

24 dollars vs 16 dollars (minus shipping).

Check your local shops, but generally, these things are cheaper online even with shipping fees, vs local brick and mortar shops.

If the file is still in the Recycle Bin you should be able to manually move the file.

Just select the file then Edit then Move to Folder.

All the software I use is free. I don't like to pay for something that if I search hard. I will eventually get it for free.

No longer in the Recycle Bin since I deleted the photo using my camera & not my computer.

Extreme enlargements are not the only advantages to a dslr. Some girls get down right giddy at the sight of a "gripped" cam; or useable high iso for decent night shots, or if you're stopped by le w/provider the cam becomes a legitimate excuse: I'm a photog and this is my model.I have done that twice, the same cop both times. A third time the officer pulled up next to me at a stop light when I was by myself and asked if I would be taking any pictures tonight.

Have an old Minolta Maxxum 7000 from late 80’s to early 90’s
Am wondering if it has any value or if I would be better off keeping it as a novelty item.
Just starting to do research on p&s cameras or a small camcorder, saw this camcorder for 299.95 & thought it was a good deal JVC Everio 80GB 45X Dynamic Zoom Camcorder.
http://www.us-appliance.com/gzmg750.html?gdftrk=gdfV21216_a_7c444_a_7c1317_a_7cgzmg750
However not really looking to record anything, just more p&s an occasional picture here & there, & the cell phone camera doesn’t cut it.
Any ideas on the Maxxum let me know.
Thanks
Have fun stay safe

MisfitI was linked over to this thread about someone who had a problem recovering pics from a sd card. I had the same prob last week, went to office deopt to hopefully buy a program or at least let themtry and recover them for me. They said they could not, however one of the nerds in the store directed me to a website that was made specifically for this purpose. Well the website is called www.piriform.com/recuva Click on deep scan and follow instructions, I actually had mine recovered in about 5 mins, you must have a sd mem card reader, it can't just read from a camera thru the usb, sd mem card reader $7. 99 and trust me you will have your pics back like I did. Any questions, you can pm me. Hope this helps out whoever needs it.

I stumbled upon this online.

http://www.barrycam.com

It looks like a BMW key and will take video with sound or still pictures. It has motion activation so you can place the camera (which looks like a car key) and it will take video when motion is detected. I haven't used it or purchased it, but it looks awesome. It is ninety nine dollars.

Helpful hint; if you delete something on the SD card by mistake, Stop using that card immediately! If you keep using it the camera will record over the deleted data and it will be lost! If you want to keep shooting change cards!

Now here is a question for those photographers who know more than I do. What are the best SD cards for outdoor photo shoots of HOs? Also, is it better to use a different card on indoor shoots?

SD cards store data transferred from a source. They don't know whether you're indoors or outdoors or even whether you're shooting a girl or a monkey in a zoo.

You match the "class" of SD card to your camera. Cards come in different classes to match speed and data transfer rates. Your device should have a logo stating whether it's SD, SDHC, SDXC, etc From there you choose a capacity. Cards are backwards compatible. Meaning SD and SDHC will work in SDXC devices, but not the other way around. It also helps you buy a decent, reliable brand.

Whats the easiest way to navigate pics posted to specific forums? For instance if you go say Ohio Cleveland Streetwalkers you see how many pics have been posted, if you click on that you get a pop up window with the pics listed and clicking on one will open the image but it is difficult to navigate to others listed because you can't close out the image viewed and still have the list up. Anyone know of a good trick to easily check out all the images posted?
